Have you ever seen marathon held at night or participated in one?
Here's the very first marathon held at night after sundown in Singapore. This event is sponsored by Adidas.

In the wee hours of the morning, the inaugural adidas Sundown Marathon saw over 6,000 runners participate in Singapore’s first ever night long-distance run event. The categories in this year’s event included the 84km Ultra Marathon, the 42km Marathon, Team Challenge and Corporate Challenge. The latter two categories had teams of four participants running 10.5km each.

"There's a kind of magic that takes place when you run at night.

You See: Lights in the Dark. You Hear: Your footsteps, your heartbeat. You Smell: The scent of the fresh night breeze. You Touch: The coolness of the air. You Taste: The nearing victory of completing your run. "

Athletes are usually seen training at night but not running at night. And the race are often held in the day.The first adidas Sundown Marathon was held on the 31st of May till 1st June of 2008. It was a success. For the second adidas Sundown Marathon will be held on he 30th of May 2009 which will be 6 months from now.

TANNY: Tree Top Walk @ MacRitchie
Written on: Tuesday, December 2, 2008
Time: 7:12 PM

Ever wondered how it feels to walk through a forest without touching the ground?Wondered what is happening up in the trees as you walk through the forest?

Well, as the title has said it, Tree Top Walk.

**A free suspension walkway across the MacRitchie Reservoir at a height of 25m above ground, spanning Bukit Peirce and Bukit Kalang, the two highest points in MacRitchie Reservoir.

The walkway gives one a closer look into the happenings in the forest and have a better look at our forest creatures like Colugos (flying lemurs) and Long-tailed macaques (monkeys);view trees from an entirely different angle and enjoy a panoramic view of Upper Peirce Reservoir. Some 80 species of birds and 18 rare trees have been spotted in the forest.

The site was carefully chosen to ensure that plant and animal communities were not disturbed during the building of the bridge. It will play an important role in forest canopy research, because it gives researchers access to areas off the ground.

Opening hours are Tue to Fri: 9am-5pm, Sat, Sun and Public Holidays: 8.30am-5pm. Closed on Mondays except public holidays for maintenance and research.

From the NParks website: "The TreeTop Walk is accessible from MacRitchie Reservoir Park via MacRitchie Nature Trail (indicated as Route 3 on map) or from Venus Drive, off Upper Thomson Road.

The distance to the entrance of the TreeTop Walk is approximately 4.5 km (1.5 - 2 hour walk) from the reservoir park and 2.5 km (45 mins - 1 hr walk) from the carpark at Venus Drive.

Therefore, a round trip including the TreeTop Walk is about 7 to 10 km (3-5 hours depending on your walking pace)."
There will be a one-way traffic system on the Tree Top Walk. That is, visitors can only enter from the Bukit Peirce entrance (via Peirce Track).
Walking towards Bukit Kalang, visitors will exit along the Petaling Trail.

This system is to allow visitors a more enjoyable visit. The walkway is narrow and the number of people that can be on the walkway at the same time is limited to 30 persons.

NParks rangers will also on hand at the site to assist visitors.

For more information, you can visit NParks or Wild Singapore.

Bukit Timah Reserve, the place to be!!

Bukit Timah Reserve is the ONLY primary rainforest left in Singapore which shelters more species of trees than the entire North American continent.

It is established in 1883 and in 1951; it received more protection under the Nature Reserves Ordinance which was enacted under the National Parks Act.

This lush 164-hectare reserve now has 840 flowering plants and over 500 species of animals.

Towering trees, climbing palms (better known as rattans), ferns, orchids, gingers and strange blooms such as the can be spotted easily.

If you want something more challenging, try finding the insect-eating pitcher plant!!

The most commonly encountered animal is the Long-tailed Macaques (monkey)
which room around freely. You may even spot them swing from tree to tree!!
But please do not feed them as it does more harm than good to them.

Open your eyes and be more observant to spot Flying lemur (Colugo), squirrels and forest birds which include the Striped tit-babbler, the Fairy bluebird, drongos and bulbuls.

While experiencing Bukit Timah Reserve, don’t forget to hike up to Bukit Timah Hill!

However, tin deposits are not found in the area. (=

• The hill served as a granite quarry for many years, but since the mid-1900s, all operations of which has since been abandoned and converted into recreational areas and even filming locations

With so much to experience and see, what are you waiting for?
