SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX 2008
Written on: Sunday, November 16, 2008 Time: 3:17 AM
The recent uproar in Singapore has just zoomed past and well away in the month of October. Grand Prix Formula 1 race was a great success as 100,000 grand stand seats were sold out as fast as they were up for grabs. The first-ever night race in Formula One Grand Prix, was proudly held in Singapore. It lasted 3 days, from the test-run on the 26th to the actual race on the 28th September 2008. Marina Bay
Marina Bay Race Circuit had its huge spotlights that beamed bright onto the track so the eager spectators can watch as every magnificent race car go by. The 5.067 km race track consists 23 turns, 61 laps and 3 over-taking points. The race was won by Fernando Alonso who claimed the title-winner of 2005 and 2006. Fernando Alonso
“We were unlucky yesterday, very, very lucky today,” he said after a race which saw Ferrari fail to score a point and McLaren-Mercedes star Lewis Hamilton extend his World Championship lead to seven points after finishing in third place.
“After qualifying our hopes were completely gone,” added Alonso, “but again today shows F1 is unpredictable on Sunday. I had my fingers crossed all through the last lap! It was a great weekend for Formula One. We all had great challenges in front of us – and we will all be part of history.”
On the 28th of September, F1 came to a grand closing and the Singapore Grand Prix Executive Director, Michael Roche gave acknowledgement for Singapore for its many contributions to make the event a success. The race in 2009 is surely going to be yet another exciting one as it is held on 27th September too. Be sure to grab your tickets now to get the great seats before it is all sold out!
If you have missed this year, make sure you do not miss next year's!
