NOVI: Barclays Singapore Open 2008 and Lexus Cup Singapore 2008
Written on: Friday, November 28, 2008
Time: 1:01 AM

The Barclays Singapore Open is a full field event on the Asian Tour which features a maximum field of 150 players. It was held on the 13- 16 November 2008. This event was held at the Sentosa Golf Club’s Serapong Course, to make the tournament even tougher. They lengthened the course from 7,139 yards to 7,430 yards, narrowed the fairways and shaved the greens to 6mm in height. Players who involved in this tournament are American Phil Mickelson, Padraid Harrington from Ireland, Adam Scott from Australia, South African Ernie Els, Choi Kyung-ju from Korea and Northern Ireland’s Darren Clarke and Rory Mcilroy. This year’s tournament, a US$5 million event, managed to pull in nearly 29,000 spectators to Sentosa.

Congratulation to this year’s winner, India’s Jeev Milkha Singh, who have brought home a winner’s prize of US$792,500. Despite the rain and lightning on the day of first and second round, the event ended successfully.

Reported on the TODAY newspaper, Tuesday November 18, 2008:
The organizers say luring No. 1 Woods and the current No. 2 Sergio Garcia, to Singapore is a Priority, but they won’t break the bank to bring them here.

The chairman of the tournament’s steering committee, Bob Tan, said: “we’ll sit down soon to plan for next year’s tournament, including the budget.

“We don’t now if Tiger will come. He’s targeted next year’s US Masters, and will be very selective in which events he plays.”

Will the presence of Tiger woods in the next year’s tournament draw more spectators to Sentosa to watch this far-fetched game?
